Maccabee Apparel presents the first sigil in its Great Houses of Israel series, combining ancient Jewish traditions with our own unique style.
The Nation of Israel originally consisted of twelve tribes, each named for one of the sons of Jacob (Israel). Here we've taken some artistic license, reimagining the tribes as noble houses in the style of the popular series Game of Thrones (hence "House Judah"). Judah, the house from which Israelite royalty descends, and the tribe to which most Jews belong today, is traditionally represented by a lion, and the color of their original flag according to classical sources such as the Midrash Rabba was sky blue. Our motto for House Judah, "Who dares provoke him?" is Biblically-inspired.
